Coupling of Superconductive YBa2Cu3O7 and Antiferromagnetic TbMnO3 Bi-layer Composite Thin Films

Abstract:

Superconductive (SC) YBa2Cu3O7 or YBCO, antiferromagnetic (AFM) TbMnO3 or TMO single-layer, and YBCO/TMO bi-layer thin films were epitaxially deposited by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on (001) oriented SrTiO3 single crystal substrates. X-ray diffraction and high resolution TEM confirmed that these thin films were epitaxy with high crystallinity. TMO thin film changed from antiferromagnetism to weak ferrimagnetism due to the crystal distortion; the magnetic transition was observed at a temperature of 40K by SQUID. We have also identified that TMO layer may release the constraint stress between YBCO and STO, which increase SC transition temperature of thinner YBCO by 4K and decrease the deposition temperature of YBCO by 70°C.
