Efficiency of Point-of-Use Water Disinfection Using Deep UV Light Emitting Diode Technology

Abstract:

We present results of microbial disinfection of E.coli bacteria in water using Point-of-Use UV light-emitting diode (LED) chamber. A set of four UVCLEAN LED lamps was used to produce UV radiation at 272-273nm. More than 6LOG reduction of E.coli was obtained at flow rate of 0.5L/min. Disinfection efficiency saturated with increasing of input (and UV) power indicating full eradication of E.coli at 0.5L/min. At flow rate of 2L/min germicidal efficiency increased linearly with input power demonstrating excellent reactor scaling.
