Speaker:Tadao Hashimoto
Primary Industry:Cleantech/Solid State Lighiting
Executive Summary:SixPoint Materials, Inc. is developing a crystal growth technology capable of a 90% cost reduction in manufacturing of gallium nitride (GaN) wafers, which is the key material for next generation high-end light emitting diodes (LEDs). SixPoint is a spin-off from the laboratory of Professor Shuji Nakamura, the inventor of GaN LEDs at University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). The company was founded by Dr. Tadao Hashimoto, who has 18 years of experience in GaN research field and Dr. Edward Letts, who also pursued his degree in the Nakamura laboratory. We are completing a 4-year joint R&D project with a Japanese material company and a Japanese LED company. SixPoint has raised $6.5 million to date, licensed 3 patents from UCSB, and has 7 of its own patents pending. We have demonstrated bulk GaN crystals, GaN wafer prototypes and LEDs.
