A bio-based renewable route to the commodity chemical Isobutyric Acid

I.P. Brief:We have devised a novel, renewable pathway to generate bio-based isobutyric acid, a valuable commodity chemical and building block for methacrylate (MAA) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). Using a synthetic metabolic pathway in microbes, high levels of isobutyric acid have been produced via fermentation of renewable sugar feed stocks.
