Evangelyn Alocilja's research has focused on the development of nonoparticle-based biosensors for rapid, on-site identification and diagnosis of infectious agents of concern to homeland security, global health, and food and water safety. Dr. Alocilja has filed 23 invention disclosures with MSU since 1999. She has received three patents and has numerous patent applications pending. In 2011, MSU Technologies licensed a suite of Dr. Alocilja's technologies to start-up nanoRETE, which will develop and commercialize an inexpensive test for handheld biosensors to detect threats such E.coli, Salmonella, tuberculosis and anthrax. She serves as chief science officer of the company.
