Dr. Karen Waldrip is a research scientist at the Advanced Power Sources Technology R&D department at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), USA. Her laboratory work includes developing a novel synthetic method for the growth of bulk gallium nitride for substrates for next-generation power electronics, and also on novel electrochemical reactions based on molten salt reduction of nitrogen gas.

Bachelor: Chemistry and Physics from George Mason University in 1994 Masters and PhD: Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida in 2001

Post-doc at Sandia National Laboratories and developed the Electrochemical Solution Growth (ESG) technique currently being applied to bulk gallium nitride Joined the Advanced Power Sources R&D department in 2004 and have worked on various battery projects, including developing novel materials and electrolytes for capacitors and batteries. Began managing the science and technology portfolio of the DOE\'s Office of Electricity Energy Storage Program in 2010.
