An aqueous nanoparticle TiO2 formulation for high efficiency dye sensitized solar cells

Summary:

An aqueous formulation containing commercially available P25 nanoparticles and a water soluble precursor- titanium (IV) bis(ammonium lactato)dihydroxide (TALH) have been developed and optimized for fabricating photoanodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC). An optimal formulation achieved a power conversion efficiency of 9.2%. The performance enhancement is shown to be a function of the TALH concentration which improves porosity and conductivity of the anode. We utilize standard characterization techniques including current-voltage, spectroscopy and electrochemical methods as well as high resolution microscopy to study the thin films. The results indicate a very simple formulation of a well known titanium dioxide powder for producing high efficiency DSC.
