Surface Energetic Heterogeneity of Carbon-based Nanomaterials

This work summarizes using Inverse Gas Chromatography (IGC) to characterize the surface properties of various nano-scale materials. For instance, carbon nanotubes with different surface treatments are investigated. The surface energy heterogeneity was measured on these materials. Differences were readily detected and their implicaitons on product performance will be discussed. Additionally, examples will be given on nano-clays and other carbon multi-walled carbon nanotubes.
