Summary:

Electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM) is a new scanning probe microscopy technique that provides nanometer-scale analysis of electrochemical reactions and ionic transport in solids for energy storage and conversion and information technology applications. This technique, as illustrated in Figure 1, probes electrochemical reactivity and ionic flows in solids on the sub-ten-nanometer level,three to four orders of magnitude below the effective resolution of conventional electrochemical methods.
