Summary:

Deposition of Pt nano-particles onto Al2O3 and CeO2-Al2O3 powders was studied by using a pulsed Arc plasma deposition (APD) method for the three way catalyst (TWC) applications. Quantum chemical calculation (QCC) modeling of electron energy level of Pt, PtO and PtO2 on CeO2, Al2O3, TiO2 and ZrO2 results revealed that Pt species on CeO2 showed the lowest electron energy level (-4.4, -7.3 and -6.65 eV) than the others. Low temperature desorption peaks of NO and CO indicated by NO and CO-TPD-QMS experimental results. XPS results indicated that the amount of Pt0 and Pt2+ species increased on CeO2-Al2O3 compared to Al2O3 surface. The results of CO-pulse chemisorption and TEM showed the high dispersion of Pt nano-particles on CeO2-Al2O3, which lead to appear low temperature NOx, CO and C3H6 conversions.
