Polymer Physics Research and Nano Team

BASF SE

Wendel Wohlleben grew up in Berlin, then studied physics at the Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, were he worked at the spectroscopy department of Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics. He graduated with a diploma thesis that was performed in the labs of C. Cohen-Tannoudji at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. He earned his PhD in 2003 from the Ludwigs-Maximilians-University Munich with a thesis on energy harvesting in photosynthesis, performed at the Laser Chemistry department of the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics.

Afterwards, he developed chemically selective microscopy at the Physical Chemistry department of the University Marburg. Wendel Wohlleben integrated BASF in 2005 to head a laboratory for colloid characterization in Polymer Physics Research. From 2007 to 2009, he acted as Innovation Manager for the growth cluster nanotechnology with responsibilities for BASF\'s strategy and for roadmapping of open innovation in the European Technology Platform for Sustainable Chemistry (www.SusChem.org).

Since 2010, he has a double affiliation with Polymer Physics GKC and Experimental Toxicology GV/T to investigate the safety of nanomaterials. His research around colloids and nanomaterials includes a strong integration in the academic world via collaborative projects, resulting in55 research papers and 7 patents.
