Dr. Georgios A. Sotiriou received a Diploma in Applied Physics from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and continued his graduate studies at ETH Zurich, Switzerland obtaining a M.Sc. in Micro- and Nanosystems. Dr. Sotiriou earned his PhD from the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering ETH Zurich, where he is currently performing his PostDoc research. His research interests include the gas-phase synthesis of nanoparticles and multifunctional devices, and more specifically the biomedical applications of nanostructured materials in theranostics (therapy and diagnostics). Furthermore, his research focuses on the manufacturing of multi-functional multi-layer polymer nanocomposite films that have lead to patent applications. Dr. Sotiriou received the AIChE 2011 Bionanotechnology graduate student award for his research in hybrid plasmonic-magnetic nanoparticles and is a member of the Materials Research Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
