Summary:

We present the synthesis and supramolecular organization of gold nanoparticles templated by self-assembling cyclic peptide nanotubes. This process occurs in a one-pot reaction and results in a number of different peptide-nanoparticle complex structures that are tunable based on the concentration of chloroauric acid (HAuCl4). Observed are nanoparticle-decorated peptide nanotubes, peptide-gold semicircle structures, and highly complex fractal networks.This system allows the facile bottom-up assembly of hybrid organic-nanoparticle nanostructures for applications such as plasmonic sensors or self-assembling electronic nanocircuits.
