Special Symposium

Increases in worldwide investments over the past few years have propelled nanoscience research scientific breakthroughs to new levels. To ensure that these discoveries lead to commercially viable products, it is important to address barriers and challenges to nanomanufacturing, in parallel with the ongoing nanoscience research. The goal of the symposium is to address moving from laboratory fabrication and prototyping, into industry-floor manufacturing. Nanomanufacturing has to be high-volume, high-rate, integrated assembly of nano-elements into commercial products.  This involves overcoming many challenges such as precise control of the position, orientation, and interconnectivity of nano-elements while addressing health and safety of nanomaterials during manufacturing and throughout the life cycle of products. The symposium will also highlight new and novel nanotechnology based applications and products in many fields.

The symposium will include but not limited to the following topics:

  1. Directed assembly of 2D and 3D heterogeneous and multiscale structures and systems
  2. Advanced processes and tools for nanomanufacturing
  3. Environmental health & safety, toxicity & regulations
  4. New and novel nanoscale sensors and electronics
  5. Novel and new energy harvesting technologies
  6. Reliability and yield issues; fault /defect tolerant devices.
  7. Modeling of nanoscale process and reliability.
  8. Nanomaterials: scale up production; cost.
  9. Metrology: real-time characterization methods and monitoring.
  10. Infrastructure Issues: standards, instrumentation, tools, nanotechnology roadmap.

Journal Submissions

Selected Nanotech Proceedings papers will be reviewed and invited into a Special Issue of the Journal of Experimental Nanoscience. The journal provides a showcase for advances in the experimental sciences underlying nanotechnology and nanomaterials.
