Alfonso Gonzalez-Montiel is the Managing Director of Macro-M a company focused on the design and production of nanostructured polymers and also a major producer of halloysite (natural aluminum-silicate nanotubes). He launched the company as a spin-off of central research group back in 2006. He is currently in charge of both the central R&D group (CID) and the nanotech spin-off. His present interests include research on nanomaterials/polymer interfaces, building of nanostructures based on block copolymers and alignment of nanoparticles in polymer matrices. Prior to joining KUO, Dr. Gonzalez-Montiel worked for GE Plastics as a Lead Product Developer, Solvay Polymers as a Technical Manager and Monsanto Chemical Co. as a junior research associate. He has over 25 years on experience in the fields of polymer blends, reactive compatibilization and 10 years on nanocomposites. Dr. Gonzalez-Montiel has a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.S. in chemical engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
