Hongbin Ma, is a LaPierre professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and director of the College of Engineering’s Center for Thermal Management. A fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Ma conducts research in phase-change heat transfer, thermal management, ejector refrigeration, and heat pipes. He founded the research consortium for Innovative Thermal Management (ISoTherM Research Consortium) at MU to tackle current and future cooling needs, develop novel low-cost cooling technologies and deliver the research results directly to industry. He has conducted research projects funded by NSF, NIH, Intel Corporation, Outokumpu, Foxconn, DARPA, Northrop, ONR, Army-LWI, Rockwell, Gore-Tex, and Department of Education totaling over $4 million. Ma has delivered lectures to the thermal engineers at Intel Corporation, Rockwell, Lockheed, Pall Corporation, and General Electric Company in the field of thermal management. His research work has resulted in over 120 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings.
