Italian Institute of Technology
Ilker S. Bayer is a Team Leader at the Smart Materials Platform of the Italian Institute of Technology Center for Biomolecular Materials, Lecce, Italy. He also holds a joint appointment at the University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as a visiting assistant professor. He received his PhD degree from the University of Illinois in Mechanical Engineering in 2006. His current research interests are focused on fabrication and characterization of liquid repellent polymer-based nanocomposite thin films, fabrication of functional green nanocomposites, novel biopolymer composites, incorporation of hydrophobic drugs in biopolymers for biomedical applications, protection of ancient documents using nanotechnology, cellulose nanocomposites, and use of novel emulsion technologies to fabricate bionanocomposites. Dr. Bayer is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He is the author/co-author of 5 patents, +30 technical publications and more than 25 peer reviewed publications.
