Bernard Dems is the Associate Director of the Core R&D Global Materials Science Group at Dow. He started his career at Dow after receiving his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1990 from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Over the course of his career, he has made significant contributions in the process and product development and commercialization of several new product lines for Dow including VECTOR® styrenic block copolymers, TYRIN® Chlorinated polyethylene rubber, NORDEL® EPDM rubber, INDEX® ethylene-styrene interpolymers, and XLA® fiber. As Associate Director of the Global Materials Science Laboratories in Dow, he has been responsible for strategic development of key capabilities including nanofoam materials for enhanced insulation, nanolithographic materials, templating systems for filtration and separation membranes, and systems for extended lifetime and durability in wind and solar energy arenas.
