Nanotech 2011

Some recent advances in our understanding of carbon nanostructures from a 50 year perspective (invited presentation)

Today our focus of attention in nanostructures is strongly drawn to carbon nanostructures. The roots of these recent developments go back to monolayer graphene (1947) and single wall carbon nanotubes (1976 and earlier), both discoveries of the past century. With the advance of science, these old works have gained new meaning and importance. My talk focuses on an elaboration of some historical roots of these recent discoveries in terms of the impact of the new and, at the same time, old material graphene.
