Dr. Hendrik Heinz is an Assistant Professor at the University of Akron, Department of Polymer Engineering, with research interests in multi-scale simulation of biomimetic and energy conversion materials. In particular, he developed new parameters for the reliable simulation of (bio)organic-inorganic multiphase materials at the length scale of 1 to 100 nm which facilitate the understanding of molecular interactions between biopolymers, surfactants, and inorganic surfaces for various applications. Prior to joining academia, he worked as a visiting scientist at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and received his Ph.D. from ETH Zurich in 2003. Dr. Heinz also serves as a consultant and published 25 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
