Dr. Richardson received his BA in biology and chemistry from Middlebury College in Vermont. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Boston University and did postdoctoral work at Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. After working for two biotech start-up companies in Boston, Dr. Richardson joined the MIT/Whitehead Genome Center as the production manager. Dr. Richardson joined the US Department of Energy’s Joint Genome Institute (JGI) in 1998. While working on the Human Genome Project and beyond, Dr. Richardson led groups devoted to improving and adopting the newest sequencing technologies. Dr. Richardson also led the JGI Microbial Program which was responsible for producing several hundred bacterial and archeal genomes. Most recently, Dr. Richardson was the Vice President for Research & Development at ProGenTech Limited, a life science and molecular diagnostics company developing next generation instrumentation for nucleic acid and protein purification and molecular diagnostic testing.
