Morphology and Magnetic Properties of Ni-Zn Ferrites Doped With Copper

The present work proposes to investigate the influence of the substitution of the Ni2+ to Cu2+ in the synthesis and in the structural, morphologic and magnetic characteristics of the Ni0.5-xCuxZn0.5Fe2O4 ferrites with x = 0.0; 0.1; 0.2; 0.3 and 0.5 moles prepared by combustion reaction. The powers were characterized by real density, nitrogen adsorption (BET), XRD, granulometric distribution, SEM and for magnetic parameters by M-H curves. The results show that the synthesis for combustion reaction is a favorable process to obtain Ni-Cu-Zn ferrites powders as majority phase and traces of secondary phases. Crystallite size calculated was between 30 - 41 nm. Hysteresis curves M-H showed that the doped systems with copper presented material with superparamagnetic behavior. The ferrimagnetic behavior for composition without copper was only observed. The saturation magnetization decreased with the increase of the copper concentration and the compositions with 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 moles of copper presented value of maximum magnetic flux density inside the estimate theoretical value for Ni-Zn ferrites.
