Bidimensional Size Distribution of Asymmetric Nano Particles

Abstract:

We develop a method that allow one to build a bidimensional size distribution of asymmetric particles (e.g. for a rodlike particle: length and diameter) from experimental rotational and translational diffusion coefficients. These coefficients are related to the dimensions of the particles through rigid body hydrodynamics models. The method proposed was tested with experimental results from a colloidal dispersion of cellulose nano whiskers in water. Diffusion coefficients were measured with Photon Correlation techniques and estimated distributions compared with images from Atomic Force Microscopy.
