Nanopatterning of Emulsion Templated Porous Scaffolds using Amphiphilic Block Copolymers

Abstract:

Polystyrene scaffolds based on high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) templating were synthesized with the aim of functionalizing the scaffold surface with amphiphilic block copolymers in 3D. The scaffolds produced used poly(ethylene oxide), poly(1,4-butadiene)-b-poly(acrylic acid) polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid) as surfactants. Scaffold surfaces were successfully functionalized by the hydrophilic blocks; poly(ethylene oxide) and poly(acrylic acid) as characterized by XPS.
