Solvothermal Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles with Amine and Acrylate Functionality Toward Optically Transparent Nanocomposites

Abstract:

Zinc Oxide dispersions with average particle sizes of 10 nm in diameter have been prepared via solvothermal synthesis from zinc acetate dihydrate. Amine and acrylate capping agents initiated from silanes were used to control particle growth and as a functional moiety on the surface of the nanoparticle. The particles have been characterized via UV-vis absorbance measurements, XRD, FT-IR, and SEM. The functionalized particles were blended with acrylate monomers and deposited as optically transparent nanocomposites. Characterization of the resulting nanocomposites shows promise as coatings for optical and electronic devices.
