NanoZeolites - small particles, small pore, big impact! Porous nanoparticles for environmental applications

Abstract:

NanoScape has developed hydrothermal synthesis techniques which allow nanocrystalline, porous aluminosilicates (NanoZeolites) to be manufactured, currently on a 100kg p.a. scale. A range of NanoZeolites are available with pore sizes ranging from 3A to 100A. Particle sizes vary with the structure but are typically around 100nm with narrow particle size distribution. These materials can be delivered in either non-agglomerated powder form or as stable aqueous suspensions. Suitable surface modification of the hydrophilic particles allows for easy dispersion into organic matrices. Coatings systems have been developed allowing thin zeolite films to be put down onto various substrates (e.g. glass, ceramic, aluminium). Furthermore, materials have been tailor-made to fulfil the requirements of certain key industrial CleanTech applications in which they play a crucial role, such as: heat pumps, heat exchangers, dehumidification systems, exhaust-gas catalysts, gas separation membranes and (reverse osmosis) water purification membranes. In all applications a significant increase in performance or energy efficiency is recorded through use of the NanoZeolites. Furthermore, the existence of such nanoscale materials has opened up new design and construction opportunities previously unserviceable with existing state-of-the-art materials.
