Executive Summary: 

Our FIV was developed to carry nondestructive testing sensors down the length of a straight tube, look for flaws, deformations in the cylinder and thus determine the remaining life of the structure. Two prototypes exist, one for 155-105 mm and the other for 60-80 mm cylinders. Both carry a camera and eddy current (ET) sensor that will scan the structure and display a photo image in real time and perform an ET scan using a graphical user interface (GUI) touch screen. The vehicle can operate in either automatic or manual modes. The FIV has a video borescope snf features a small USB CSM on-board. The MCSV features automatic flaw detection that allows the user to set a specific threshold to trigger the scanning mechanism. Initial efforts have begun to develop a flexible FIV that can handle 90 degree angles. The original flaw detection capabilities are geared toward manufacturing specifications, i.e. small pitting and flaws. The prototypes are available for on-site testing and can be customized for a particular application. The primary user thus far has been the military and firearms industries; however, the pipeline industry is also a potential customer.
