Analysis and lateral manipulation of membrane proteins in their native environment – a microfluidic technique

Abstract:

We have developed a technique, based on microfluidics, aiming to provide analysis, enrichment and separation of membrane proteins kept in their native environment, simply by incorporating membrane proteins from cell membrane fragments into a supported lipid bilayer. We probe ligand binding to membrane receptors in their native environment and show enrichment and separation of membrane-associated proteins. Our technique is designed to avoid the use of detergents and protein engineering.
