Nicholas Tiliakos

Senior Engineer

Nicholas Tiliakos received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 1993 and 1997, respectively, where his research focused on electric/plasma space populsion systems. He joined ATK GASL, Ronkonkoma, NY in 1997, where he was a Test Engineer for three years in the Test and Evaluation Laboratory, testing hypersonic engines, bipropellant liquid rocket engines, and catalytic combustors, and is currently a Senior Engineer with the Advance Concepts Group, with expertise in advanced propulsion systems, thermal fluids, heat transfer, thermodynamics and MEMS. He was an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Columbia University, New York, NY from 2001 to 2007, having taught advanced thermodynamics and advanced heat transfer. Over the last seven years, he has conducted MEMS research for harsh environment sensors, which includes a MEMS shear stress sensor for supersonic/hypersonic aeropropulsion systems, a MEMS ablative recession rate sensor for the NASA AMES Research Center and MEMS devices for thermal management applications. Dr. Tiliakos has been a Senior Member of the America Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics since 1986 and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers since 2006.
