Gene Expression Profiling Using Atomic Force Microscopy

Abstract:

Global gene expression analysis is the quantification of gene transcription, across all genes, by a cell or tissue at the time of sampling. Detection of differences and modulation in global expression patterns has yielded a deeper understanding of the biology of normal and diseased tissue. There is increasing demand for expression profiling of small samples, as large amounts of material can be difficult to obtain in clinical and experimental settings.Our team aims to directly identify individual cDNA gene transcript molecules via atomic force microscopy (AFM)in a method that is competitive with currently used array techniques.
