Griffith University

Australia

Dr Graham Wise holds a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Queensland, Australia. In 2000, Graham took up a position as Manager of the Centre for Advanced Light Microscopy. He built the Centre from scratch to create Australia’s largest 3D confocal and multiphoton imaging centre, providing services to over 90 university, industry and government groups in Australia. In 2005 Graham joined the Institute for Glycomics, led by Professor Mark von Itzstein, developer of the world’s first anti-influenza medication, Relenza™. As Business and Operations Manager, Graham was responsible for research and commercial development, underpinning the Institute’s growth from a staff of 20 to its current 150 biomedical researchers and support staff. Graham is currently Manager of Research Development for Griffith University, a leading research university in Australia. Graham currently leads a team of six managers who, during 2011 and 2012, were collectively responsible for building research partnerships to a total value of $90 million. In 2013 Graham won a competitive Australia Award – The Endeavour Executive Award for travel to the US to foster best practice in university-industry-government (UIG) partnerships. While in the US in April and May this year, Graham is particularly interested in sharing knowledge to improve the role of SMEs in UIGs; develop knowledge transfer mechanisms at an early stage in technology-driven partnerships; and to better understand the role of UIGs for technology development and for social innovation.
