Marcie R. Black

CTO and Co-founder

Bandgap Engineering

Marcie Black co-founded Bandgap Engineering in 2007 and is the inventor of its fundamental IP. Marcie leads all technical aspects at Bandgap. Bandgap Engineering is working to commercialize nanowire-enhanced solar cell designs that combine low-cost processing with crystalline silicon to yield high-efficiency products. Bandgap’s highly tunable silicon nanowires make these designs possible, leading to solar power cost-competitive with the grid. Before founding Bandgap, Marcie was a technical staff member at Los Alamos National Labs and a device engineer at Motorola. Dr. Black holds a BS, MS and PhD from MIT in Electrical Engineering. She has published over 30 articles in peer reviewed journals and has 5 issued patents with numerous pending patents.
