The Ru/MCM-41 catalyst prepared by chemical fluid deposition technique exhibited high catalytic activity for hydrogenation of p-xylene, bisphenol A, bisphenol F and benzoic acid, which was higher than that of a conventionally prepared Ru/MCM-41 catalyst. This result may be attributed to the addition of scCO2 causing a better dispersion of metal nanoparticles throughout the support. On the other hand, high conversion and selectivity from the hydrogenation reactions of benzyl alcohol and its derivative to form cyclohexanemethanol can be achieved in water and compressed CO2/water systems over silica-supported Ru/MCM-41.
