Summary:

Specially formulated solid vitreous inorganic electrolytes and high rate methods and equipment for thin film deposition of electrolyte and electrodes enables new generations of lithium batteries, including micro- & macro batteries with safe charging/cycling, working temperatures from –15° C to +300° C, new design, shapes, and flexible formats.Solid electrolytes that have specific structure and morphology on the interface with electrodes deliver increased safety during Li-ion and Li-metal secondary battery cycling, due to the absence of dendrite formation and cathode/anode short circuits. The high level of ionic conductivity provides wide temperature operating range from -15°C to + 300°C. Solid electrolyte enables improved performance of Li-ion batteries: 1) for new applications and 2) by reducing battery pack cooling needs.Special morphology of thin film electrode and solid electrolyte ensures good mechanical properties and good adhesion between components of the electrode structure.Combination of solid inorganic electrolyte with nanostructured graphite – Si composition without binder as anode, and nanostructured high conductive spinel LiMn2O4 without binder as cathode, provides high energy for Li-ion batteries.Proprietary fabrication technique enables high rate manufacturing of low cost, completely solid-phase Li- and Li-ion batteries, with multiple layers enabling stacking of units for large capacity batteries for EVs and other applications.
