Optimization of mercury removal from natural gas

Natural gas frequently contains traces of mercury, mostly as elemental mercury. Even at low levels, this mercury has to be removed because of its toxicity to human health and its corrosiv character. One adapted method is to trapp the mercury on an adsorbent as alumina impregnated by copper sulfide. By selecting the appropriate carrier support and synthesis operating conditions, we achieve to optimize the mercury removal performances. Besides, limiting steps of mercury adsorption mechanisms are investigated through numerical simulations.
