Designing Scalable, Low-Cost Photovoltaic Materials

Abstract:

To contribute a meaningful percentage of total worldwide electricity production, solar cell materials must be scalable and fabricated of Earth abundant materials. Over recent years, an enhanced understanding of bulk and interface defect science has enabled more rapid progress toward high-efficiency, Earth-abundant, low-cost solar cells. This talk will serve as a review of progress to date, and a perspective on future challenges, as we progress in developing Earth-abundant photovoltaic materials including thin kerfless silicon, copper-zinc-tin-sulfide/selenide (CZTS/Se), cuprous oxide (Cu2O), tin sulfide (SnS).
