Abstract:

Biodiesel has been normally produced from the transesterification reaction of a vegetable oil or animal fats with an alcohol (methanol or ethanol). Homogeneous basic catalysts in liquid phase have been typically applied to commercial processes. In our research group, we have been studying the possibility of improving some process characteristics by using nanostructured materials in biodiesel production processes. This presentation brings some recent results showing promising results for better performance in biodiesel production.
