The Development of a Waste to Fuels Strategy for the Plastics and Rubber Fractions of MSW

Abstract:

Attempts to utilize the hydrocarbon fraction of MSW in the production of fuels are often confronted with the problem of how to handle the plastic and rubber fraction. Polyflow has developed a process to convert mixed and dirty polymer solid waste into chemical intermediates and fuels. This paper discusses the data generated and illustrates the process issues and benefits identified during full scale pilot plant operations over the last 3 years. The commercialization of this technology will enable the economical operation of facilities that utilize nearly all the organic MSW stream in the production of high value fuels and chemicals.
