Abstract:

Before the economic downturn, venture capital firms flocked to the Mojave Desert looking for cheap land with a vision of building billion dollar renewable energy projects. Brownfield development in urban locations typically had a highest and best use when conventionally remediated and developed. Unfortunately in today’s economy, venture capital money has dried up and Brownfields development has stalled. With mandates for renewable energy increasing, there are new market drivers that didn’t exist before. These new market drivers make it feasible to turn Brownfield sites in urban areas into Renewable energy power plants.
