Acting Science and Technology Lead, F-35 Lightning II Program Office

Amanda Gentry, an Air Force civil servant, is currently assigned as the Acting Science and Technology Lead for the F-35 Lightning II Program Office in Arlington, Virginia. The F-35 is the US Department of Defense’s newest fighter aircraft program and is a collaborative effort between the United States Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, as well as eight international partner countries. She is responsible for the guidance and administration of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program’s Science and Technology portfolio, which leverages over $2 billion of investments from defense and industrial research and development activities. Her particular emphasis is affordability and manufacturing technology. The team’s responsibility contains the entire lifecycle of Science and Technology programs, including concept inception, requirements definition, securing of funding, program support, and transition. Her team also supports both near term engineering and affordability challenges as well as next generation upgrades for the long term. Prior to this assignment, Gentry served as the Airframe Materials and Processes Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the F-35 Program Office, while assigned to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. Earlier assignments at AFRL included quick reaction support, failure analysis, and accident investigations supporting a wide number of program offices, as well as research in advanced composite materials for aircraft and space applications. Gentry is currently enrolled in the University of Tennessee Aerospace and Defense Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) program. Previously, she has earned a Master’s in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toledo. Gentry and her husband live in Northern Virginia with their two dogs
