Prof Minchin received his PhD from the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia before undertaking post-doctoral studies at the National Cancer Institute in Washington DC. His major work was on pulmonary toxicology of anti-cancer drugs and chemical carcinogenesis. He returned as a QEII Fellow to the University of New South Wales to investigate polyamine transport in the lung. Eventually, he returned to the University of Western Australia as a teaching and research academic where his interest in arylamine N-acetyltransferases and gene therapy developed. Currently, Prof Minchin is the Chair of Molecular Pharmacology at the University of Queensland.
